The purpose of this study is as follows. In a broad meaning, it is to induce the expansion of the research trend of Donghak. Specifically, Donghak thought and Western philosophical thinking are compared. And it is to explore the possibility of expansion of the study of Donghak Thought. The contents of this study were as follows. Focusing on the possibility of ontological discussion and the possibility of epistemological discussion, which are the two basic patterns of philosophical thinking, several topics that are possible for interdisciplinary comparative research between Donghak thought and Western philosophy were presented. In this article, the explanation or interpretation of the presented discussion topic is minimized. The main focus of this study was to suggest the possibility of reinterpreting the major issues in Donghak into ontology and epistemology, which are the basic patterns of Western philosophical thought.
