동학군 기록 『학초전』 고찰
『학초전』은 동학농민군 입장에서 동학혁명의 과정을 밝힌 자료이기에 그동안 관변측의 일방적인 시각을 보완할 수 있는 귀중한 자료이다. 양반사족 출신으로 갑오년(1894) 동학에 입도한 학초 박학래의 행적을 통해 관변측 자료가 담지 못한 동학농민혁명의 전개과정과 농민군의 살아있는 목소리를 드려다보는데 이 논문의 목적이 있다. 예천지역 일대에서 동학혁명에 관한 연구는 보수집강소의 기록인 <갑오척사록>을 중심으로 이뤄졌다. 이에 <갑오척사록>과 「학초전」을 비교 고찰하는 방법을 통해 예천지역의 동학진압 과정을 보다 상세하게 파악할 수 있다. 예천지역 유림과 부호들이 자발적으로 조직한 민보군은 동학군과 대결구도를 갖추고 대치하였으므로 이 두 자료의 비교연구 방법은 아래로부터의 혁명이 갖는 역사적인 의미를 고찰하는데 많은 도움이 된다. 본 논문의 연구내용은 첫째, 「학초전」이 지닌 자료적 가치를 최대한 살리기 위해 1차적으로 전체 내용을 충실하게 정리하면서 학초의 동학입도와 동학지도자로서 펼친 활동을 정리하였다. 둘째, 동학농민군 입장에서 핵심적인 사항을 가려내어 보수집강소 기록 <갑오척사록>과 비교고찰 하였다. 셋째, 동학군이 진압된 이후 여러 건의 특별한 송사에서 학초의 활약을 정리하고 영향력을 살펴보았다. 자전적인 학초 박학래의 기록을 통해 예천지역 일대 동학혁명의 전개과정을 동학군의 입장에서 파악하였다. 「학초전」은 <갑오척사록>의 일방적인 시선을 뛰어넘어 동학농민군의 동학 봉기에 담긴 진정성을 확인시켜주었다. 왕조사회를 비롯한 지역의 유림세력은 농민 중심의 동학군을 도적떼로 간주하여 철저히 진압했다. 『학초전』은 갑오년(1894) 예천지역 동학진압과정을 농민군 입장에서 기록한 자료로 예천의 화지와 금당실에서 동학도들의 도회가 열렸던 사실을 자세하게 담고 있다. 이렇듯 예천지역의 동학혁명의 전개과정을 밝히는 중요한 자료임을 확인하였다.
A Study on the Donghak-military Material "Hakchojeon"
"Hakchojeon" is the first data to reveal the process of the Donghak Revolution from the perspective of the Donghak Peasant Army, so it can create an opportunity to supplement the government's unilateral view. The purpose of this paper is to present the development process of the Donghak Peasant Revolution and the live voice of the peasant army, which the government is missing through the activities of Hakcho Park Hak-rae, a former noble of the aristocracy, who entered Donghak in 1894. Research on the Donghak Revolution in the Yecheon area has been based on the contents of the "Gapochuksa Book," a record of the conservative concentration center, but the process of Donghak suppression in Yecheon area can be more detailed by comparing it with the contents of "Hakchojeon." The comparative study of these two materials is a way to further specify the historical meaning of the revolution from below, as the militias voluntarily organized by intellectuals and the rich in Yecheon were confronted with Donghak-military. The research contents of this paper follow the time flow recorded by Hakcho, and first, to maximize the data value of Hakchojeon, the entire contents of Hakchojeon were faithfully organized, and the activities of Hakcho as Donghak entrance and Donghak leader. Second, the Donghak Peasant Army identified key matters and compared them with the conservative records, "Gapochuksarok." Third, the influence of Hakcho was examined in Gyeongsang-do area by organizing outstanding trials other than Donghak entrance and activities. The biographical records of Hakcho Park Hak-rae showed the development of the Donghak Revolution in the Yecheon area. "Hakchojeon" went beyond the one-sided gaze of "Gapochuksarok" and confirmed the sincerity of the Donghak uprising of the Donghak Peasant Army. Local intellectuals, including the royal society, regarded Donghak-military as a bandit and suppressed it thoroughly. However, the peasantry had a sense of duty to compromise with the conservatives to keep the country safe. "Hakchojeon" was the first record of the Donghak Peasant Army, so it was able to grasp the Donghak Revolution in the Yecheon area (1894) in detail, and the fact that the Donghak gathering was held in Yecheon.
