동학·천도교에 있어서 남녀 평등의 문제 - 여성 교령의 피택(被擇) 가능성에 대한 논의 -
동학의 탄생은 구한말의 격동기의 산물이라고 할 수 있다. 남녀평등의 문 제 또한 동학이 근대의 여명기에서 최초로 독자적으로 부르짖은 사상은 결 코 아니다. 그러나 그러한 주장은 그 시대와의 긴밀한 관계 속에서, 그 시대를 살아가는 사람들의 요구에 민감하게, 그리고 선도적으로 응답한 것으로 보인 다. 그럼에도 불구하고 역설적이게도 오늘날의 관점에서 살펴 볼 때 동학 내 의 남녀평등과 여성해방의 기치가 그 실천의 장(場)에 있어서는 너무 답보 상 태에 머물고 있지 않은가 하는 의구심을 떨쳐 버릴 수 없다. 왜냐하면 특히 최 고지도자로서의 여성 교령의 피택 문제는 동학이 본질적으로 전제한 양성평 등이라는 근본적인 사상에 비추어 볼 때 지금까지 크게 이슈화되지도 않았고, 문제 제기도 되지 않았기 때문이다. 그리고 이러한 점은 동학사상 자체가 원 초적으로 전제하고 있는 여성해방 및 양성평등의 이념에 훨씬 못 미치면서 동 학의 기본 이념을 상대적으로 잘 반영하지 못하고 있다고 평가된다. 이러한 전제를 바탕으로 본 논문에서는 다음과 같은 과정을 통해 동학·천 도교에서 여성 교령의 피택 가능성에 대한 구체적인 논의를 시도해 본다. 첫 째로, 동학·천도교에서 근본적으로 제기되었던 남녀평등의 개념을 해명하 면서 그 개념들의 역사적 전개에 대해 고찰해본다. 둘째로 동학·천도교 이론에 근거하여 실천적 롤 모델이 될 수 있었던 교단 내의 여성 교인들의 활동 상을 살펴본다. 셋째로 동학·천도교 내에서 여성 교령의 피택 가능성을 염 두에 두고 그 선출의 근거와 문제점에 대해 논의해본다. 그리고 마지막으로 여성 교령의 피택 가능성을 다양한 측면에서 논의해 보고, 그에 대한 미래적 전망을 제시해본다.
The Problem of Equality between Man and Woman in Donghak·Cheondogyo - on the Possibility of Woman being elected as a Chief Representative
The birth of Donghak can be said to be the product of the turbulent period of late Choson dynasty. The issue of gender equality is also not the first idea that Donghak cried out for the first time in modern times. But such a claim seems to have responded sensitively and proactively to the needs of those living in that time, in a close relation with that time. Nevertheless, Ironically, from today's point of view, there is no doubt that the banner of equality between man and woman, and women's liberation remains too stale in the field of practice in Donghak. This is because, in particular, the issue of woman being elected as a chief representative has not been much of an issue or a problem so far in the light of the fundamental idea of gender equality that Donghak is essentially premised. And this is considered to be a relatively less than the basic ideology of Donghak, falling far short of the original idea of women's liberation and gender equality. Based on this premise, this paper attempts to discuss specifically the possibility of woman being elected as a chief representative in Daonhak·Cheondogyo through the following process. First, this paper examines the historical development of the concept of gender equality, which was raised fundamentally in Daonhak·Cheondogyo. Secondly, this course examines the activities of women members in the denomination who can be role models in practice based on the theories of Daonhak·Cheondogyo. Thirdly, with the possibility of woman being elected as a chief representative within Daonhak·Cheondogyo, the basis and problems of such election will be examined. And finally, I will discuss the possibility of woman being elected as a chief representative in various aspects and suggest a future outlook.
