Two contrasting viewpoints exist regarding the origins of the Donghak Peasant Revolution that occurred in 1894. In the January Gobu theory, based on the Sabal Tongmun and government records, the Gobu Uprising is perceived as a continuous process connecting armed uprisings and the Baeksan Assembly within the broader context of the Donghak Revolution. On the other hand, the March Mujang Uprising theory asserts that the revolution’s substantive beginning was the Mujang Uprising, and the Gobu Uprising was a preceding stage with regional limitations. In this study, the relationship between the Gobu Uprising and the Donghak Peasant Revolution, which occurred on January 10, 1894, was analyzed from the perspective of connection and disconnection, and a plan to improve the status of the Gobu Uprising was presented. The background of the Gobu Uprising and its ideology were presented through materials such as Sabal Tongmun and Jeonbongjunggongcho, and the basis for the theory of connection and disconnection was presented. Based on this, it was revealed that the Gobu Uprising was the starting point of the Donghak Peasant Revolution and was a process naturally connected to the Mujang Uprising and the Baeksan Competition. As a way to raise the status of the Gobu Uprising, specify the spirit of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in the full text of the Constitution, revise the special law to include the Gobu Uprising within the scope of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, revise the National History Textbook, and hold regular domestic and international academic conferences. Restoration of cultural properties was suggested.
