동학농민혁명 초기 전개 과정에서 백산대회의 위상
사건이 일어난 1894년은 물론 그 이후 동학농민혁명은 고부에서 시작한 것으로 알려졌다. 그러나 1985년 이후 무장기포가 시작으로 알려지면서 고부의 봉기가 동학농민혁명에서 제외되는 등 논란을 지속하고 있다. 이에 역사적 사실에 근거하여 동학농민혁명의 초기 전개 과정을 정리하고, 백산대회의 성격과 의미, 그리고 위상을 확인하였다. 이를 위해서 연구사 검토와 각 사건의 인과성을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 동학농민혁명의 초기 전개 과정은 사발통문 거사계획, 고부봉기, 무장기포, 백산대회로 이어진다. 그런데, 무장기포를 혁명의 시작으로 설정하면서 고부봉기 이전은 동학농민혁명의 전사(前史) 또는 배경, 백산대회는 실체 불명(不明)으로 경시하였다. 이에 고부봉기부터 무장기포, 그리고 백산대회로 이어지는 전개 과정을 미시사(微視史) 연구 방법으로 연구하였다. 그 결과 각 사건의 성격과 연속성을 확인하였다. 연구의 결과, 동학농민혁명의 초기 전개 과정이 뒤틀린 원인 중의 하나는 초기 전개과정을 개별 사건으로 구분하고 분리한 후 단절시킨 결과였음을 확인하였다. 즉 고부봉기를 민란과 실패로 규정하고 무장기포와 단절시켰으며, 오랫동안 3월 봉기가 백산대회를 가리켜 왔다는 사실을 외면하고 백산대회를 부정하며 3월 봉기를 무장기포로 해석한 것이다. 본 연구를 통해 ‘앉으면 죽산, 일어서면 백산’으로 상징하는 백산대회가 동학농민혁명 초기 전개 과정의 정점으로 혁명을 시작한 3월 봉기였음을 확인하였다. 이로써 동학농민혁명 초기 전개 과정의 뒤틀린 역사적 사실을 바로잡고, 백산대회의 위상을 바로 세우는 계기를 마련하였다.
The status of Baeksan - Convention in the early development of Donghak Peasant Revolution
In 1894, when the incident occurred, as well as the Donghak Peasant Revolution, it was reported that it started from Gobu[古 阜]. However, since 1985, Mujang-Gipo[茂長起包] have been known as the beginning of the uprising, and the uprising of Gobu has been excluded from the Donghak Peasant Revolution. Based on historical facts, the early development process of the Donghak Peasant Revolution was summarized and the characteristics, meaning, and status of the Baeksan-Convention[白山大會] were confirmed. For this purpose, the researcher reviewed the history of the research and examined the causality of each case. The early development process of the Donghak Peasant Revolution leads to the plan of the Sabal-Tongmun[沙鉢通 文], Gobu uprising[古阜蜂起], Mujang-Gipo, and the Baeksan- Convention. However, as the armed artillery was set as the beginning of the revolution, the transfer of the Kobu-uprising was regarded as background of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, and the Baeksan-Convention as an unknown (substantive). The process of development from the Kobu-uprising to the Mujang- Gipo and the Baeksan-convention was studied by the method of Microstoria. As a result, the continuity was confirmed through the characteristics and leading figures of each event. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that one of the causes of the initial development process of the Donghak Peasant Revolution was the result of separating and separating the initial process into individual events. In other words, the Kobu- uprising was defined as a civil war and failure, cut off from Mujang-Gipo, ignored the fact that the March uprising[三月蜂起] had long pointed to the Baeksan tournament, denied the Baeksan tournament, and interpreted the March uprising as armed bubbles. Through this study, it was confirmed that the Baeksan-Convention, which symbolizes ‘Juksan if you sit down, Baeksan when you stand up’, was the March uprising that started the revolution as the peak of the early development process of the Donghak Peasant Revolution. This corrected the distorted historical facts of the early development process of the Donghak Peasant Revolution and set the stage for the Baeksan- Convention.
